THE ROTUNDA - This episode is all about the life and career of longtime Tallahassee prosecutor Willie Meggs. With his office giving one of the best views of Florida’s Capitol complex, even better than Gov. Rick Scott’s office; the lawman talks with Gomes about throwing the book at state lawmakers for taking freebies from lobbyists and his high-profile probe into rape allegations against FSU star quarterback Jameis Winston.
At age 72, with a career spanning more than three decades, Meggs reveals to Gomes that his decision to retire was due in large part to his reelection campaign opponent crossing the line with personal attacks. Meggs says that left him with a nasty taste in his mouth for the way political races are conducted today.
