Episode 117: More Sexy Beaches

THE ROTUNDA - Florida’s “Sexy Beaches” is back in the news. After nearly being eliminated during the legislative session over a secret contract with rapper Pitbull, Florida’s tourism marketing agency is now struggling to keep county tourism groups in traditional co-op advertising campaigns. Some political observers claim the fallout it is all part of a long held strategy by House Speaker Richard Corcoran. Bay News 9’s Troy Kinsey weighs in on the controversy. Gomes also explores President Trump’s new media ventures. When it comes to “fake news,” President Trump is creating his own as a conservative pundit, Kayleigh McEnany, jumps from CNN to hosting pro-Trump news segments direct from Trump Tower in New York.

Episode 109: No Pot Smoking

THE ROTUNDA - This episode is focused on the Legislature's secret budget deals and proposed medical marijuana smoking ban. Sen. Rob Bradley, R- Fleming Island, who has been a principal negotiator on the medical marijuana bill, tells Gomes why he is comfortable with eliminating smokable pot from the soon to be law despite threats of legal challenges. TALLAHASSEE – Gov. Rick Scott on Friday sealed a grand bargain with legislative leaders that will beef up funding for public education, tourism marketing and economic development, areas that bedeviled lawmakers during the regular session. The deal could cool off – at least for now – a civil war among Florida’s Republicans. Lawmakers will return to the Capitol next week for a three-day special session to add $215 million for PreK-12 schools, as well as more money for Visit Florida and a new incentive program for businesses — all top priorities for Scott.
